New cluster in Meradong district

KUCHING: The State Health Department has identified one new cluster in Meradong district named Sungai Sian cluster.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today (May 29), said it was a community cluster involving a longhouse in the area.

“Of the 57 people who were screened, 22 including the index case were positive while 30 others were negative.  Five others were awaiting laboratory results.

“All the positive cases were referred to the Sarikei Hospital and admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Sarikei for isolation and further treatment,” it added.

The committee  also declared the end of seven clusters, namely   the Jalang Ding Lik Kwong cluster in Sibu; the Passin cluster in Matu; the Duranda Emas cluster in Serian; the Sungai Tuah cluster in Kanowit; the Durin cluster in Bau; the Sungai Sebemban cluster in Bintulu and the Asia Villa cluster in Kuching today.

“With the addition of today’s cluster and the end of seven clusters, currently, the state has 79 active clusters and 11 of them had recorded 47 additional cases,” it said.

SDMC also revealed that the Meradong district had turned red after recording 27 local infection cases in the past 14 new local infections.

It said the state now had 28 red districts, three orange districts, eight yellow districts and one green district.
