MIRI: It seems that the government’s plea to Sarawakians to stay at home and not balik kampung (travelling back to the villages) for Gawai have fallen on deaf ears.

An observation carried out since May 29 until yesterday (May 31) found hundreds of people thronging Miri central police station (CPS) as well as Lutong and Tanjong police stations to apply for inter-district travel permits, despite the imposition of the movement control order (MCO) from May 29 to June 11.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Sabri Zainol has reiterated on the matter and called on members of the public here to stay put at their respective homes.

“When you form queues in front of police stations, it will make the situation worse —creating congestion,” he said yesterday (May 31).

There will be roadblocks throughout the district for the duration of the MCO period.

“The locations are still the same as last year’s. We also added a new roadblock along the Miri-Bypass Road,” he said.
