Slight drop in positive cases recorded

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded a slight drop in positive Covid-19 cases with 569 today (June 12), compared to 699 cases the previous day. The new cases bring the state’s tally to 54,899 cases.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 371 of these cases, or 65.20 percent, were detected in five districts, namely Sibu, Kuching, Kapit, Miri, and Bintulu.

Sibu District accounted for 149 of the new cases reported; Kuching (110), Kapit (44), Miri (41), Bintulu (27), Samarahan (26), Tatau (22), Mukah (19), Bukit Mabong and Pakan (17 each), Serian (16), Marudi (12), Subis and Sarikei (nine each). There were seven cases reported in Julau, Song and Tebedu respectively and five cases in Selangau.

Bau, Asajaya, Lawas and Meradong reported four cases each, Beluru and Kanowit (three each) while Belaga reported two cases and Sri Aman – one case.

Of the 569 new cases reported, 97 people exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening. Three hundred and 97 cases were individuals who had been given quarantine orders.

“Today (Saturday), 346 recoveries were reported and discharged,” said SDMC.

They comprised 115 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC), Miri Hospital and PKRC (74), Sibu Hospital and PKRC (48), Bintulu Hospital and PKRC (43), Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC (21), Kapit Hospital and PKRC (16), Sarikei Hospital and PKRC (15), Mukah PKRC (five), Betong PKRC (three), Limbang Hospital (three), and Lawas PKRC (three).

This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 44,720, or 81.46 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

There are still 9,717 active cases being isolated and treated at hospital wards and PKRCs throughout the state.
