MIRI: Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting lodged a police report today (June 18) after learning that a scammer is allegedly impersonating him by sending messages to his friends with a different phone number.

The Piasau assemblyman stated that he was alerted by his friends on the incident around 10am.

He added that the scammer messaged his friends using a different phone number, claiming that he is using a new number.

“Fearing for the safety of my friends and myself, I have lodged a police report.

“I do not know the scammer’s motive, but I believe the scammer has bad intentions,” Ting said.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the case is being investigated under Section 419 of the Penal Code for impersonation.
