KUCHING: The reconvening of the upcoming parliament session is in line with the expectations of the monarchy and the people, said Julau MP Larry Sng.
He said, however, the five-day sitting might be too short to debate on important issues.
“It is a rather short session to debate on several key bills, leaving little chance for many to debate in-depth issues of growing concern,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Monday (July 5).
On his expectations of the sitting, he said, “I expect much hype at first but status quo after the session has ended.”
The PMO, in a statement today (July 5), said that parliament would reconvene for five days starting July 26 to 29 and August 2 while the Senate would sit for three days from August 3 to 5.
The statement added the purpose of the sitting was to explain to MPs the National Recovery Plan and amend all laws and regulations to allow the parliamentary sittings to be held in a hybrid manner.
“Based on Clause (3) Article 150 of the Federal Constitution, all emergency proclamations and ordinances declared by Yang di-Pertuan Agong shall be laid before both Houses in Parliament,” it read.
It added the meeting would be held in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the National Security Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).
