LIMBANG: An octogenarian was burnt to death while two of her family members survived a fire that razed a shop building in Jalan Kubong at 2.31am early this morning.
The wheel-chair bound Wong Ah Ping, in her 80s, was said to be trapped in a room while her husband and two daughters escaped with minor burns.
Limbang Fire and Rescue Station chief Limbang Clarence D Primus Tiandun said the family and neighbours could not save the victim due to the raging fire and thick smoke.
“The victim’s husband and daughters were sent to Limbang Hospital for further treatment,” he said, adding the fire destroyed the entire building.
A team of nine firemen and three fire engines were rushed to the scene which was located about 10 kilometres from the fire station.
The body was taken to hospital for post mortem, while the cause of fire and losses incurred are being investigated. – Bernama
