KAPIT: This division will be the main producer of hydroelectric power in the state by 2026, said acting Resident Galong Luang when briefing Sarawak Federal Secretary Datuk Amir Omar who was on a working visit here on Friday.
Galong said that this could be achieved if the Baleh Hydroelectric Project is completed in 2026, which will make Kapit as the main producer of energy.
“Currently, Kapit has generated more than 70 percent of electricity in Sarawak through Bakun Hydroelectric Plant and Murum Hydroelectric Plant,” he explained.
Apart from that, he said that Kapit also has the potential as a coal production area as Nanga Merit-Pila is capable of producing about 408,279 metric tonnes of coal per year.
Meanwhile, Amir hoped that all government agencies, particularly those in this area, would provide their full support so that all development plans could be carried out efficiently and government policies could be communicated effectively to the people.
Amir also visited the Social Security Organisation (Socso) Kapit; SK Kampung Baru Reconstruction Project site; Kapit Hospital; quarters of health staff at Jalan Selirik and Wisma Persekutuan Kapit.
