Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said RTM Miri has played a very significant role in channelling accurate and reliable information to the public throughout this period.

“Its service is essential for our society to get precise and genuine information, particularly regarding various government policies and development.

“RTM, like any other media outlet, carries a responsibility to work with the government to help the public establish a way of life in developing a caring, responsible and prosperous society,” he said when officiating at the RTM 46th Anniversary at RTM Miri on Thursday.

Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, said RTM Miri is the only station that broadcasts news and information in the Kayan and Kenyah languages for the Kayan and Kenyah community living in rural parts of Miri.

Speaking based on his own personal experience, he advised that the RTM Miri be upgraded to better reflect Miri’s standing as a city.

“I hope that the federal government, through the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, will improve Miri RTM with better facilities and modern broadcasting equipment so that it can better serve the people of Sarawak, particularly those in Miri.

“I also hope that the suggestion can be included in the 12th Malaysia Plan and be mentioned to its respective directors,” he said.

During the event, Lee also donated an amount of RM5,000 to RTM Miri and added that several programmes, including 46 Rentak, an exercise for RTM Miri personnel; Tabung 46, a blood donation campaign; and 46 Sinaran, a donation drive for frontline workers, were also held in conjunction with the anniversary.
