PADAWAN: The Kuching Magistrate’s Court has issued warrants for the arrest of nine persons for failure to be in court to face criminal charges against them.

District deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong, who confirmed this, said five men and four women were scheduled to be in court last Thursday (Sept 30).

“Four men and four women aged between 17 and 31 did not come to face the charges of involvement in online gambling.

“And a 53-year-old man failed to be in court to face a charge under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.

“Because of these, the court issued warrants for their arrest,” he said.

In addition, two men have pleaded guilty to charges pertaining to online gambling,” he said.

One of them, a 24-year-old, pleaded guilty to two charges under Section 4B(a) and Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

The court fined him RM10,000 or one month in jail for the first charge and RM2,500 or one month in jail for the second charge.
