KUCHING: The public, especially P. Ramlee enthusiasts, are urged to tune in the live broadcast of the P. Ramlee themed rhythm and song musical theatre which is held in conjunction with the Head of State Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 85th birthday celebration on Oct 10.

The musical theatre, held at Pullman Hotel, will be broadcast live on Oct 10 from 8.45pm to 10.15pm on TV channel 122 Astro, MYTV, and also simultaneously on TVS and the Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (Ukas) Facebook channel.

TVS chief executive officer Suhaimi Sulaiman said that the event, held for the first time, was organised by TVS and the State Protocol and Event Management Unit (UPPAN).

“The highlight of that night will be the ‘Kisah Aku dan Dia’ event which features performances from Sarawak-born singers Dayang Nurfaizah, Hafiz Suip, and local P. Ramlee impersonator Fairuz Misran,” he said in a virtual press conference yesterday (Oct 5).

He also shared that Sarawak State Orchestra Symphony (SONS) singers would be performing that day. 

The event is expected to be attended by Taib and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Utility Minister and chairman of the TYT birthday celebration Datuk Seri Stephen Rundi and wife Datin Sri Loreta Lundi and other delegates.

Meanwhile, musical theatre producer Yumi Suryani said that the event would feature popular hits of the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee and Puan Sri Saloma.

“Apart from Dayang Nurfaizah, Hafiz Suip, five local singers, namely, Mal Imran, Ningkan Norman, Chien Ng, Afif Tenor and Hijrah Yahya will also be performing that night.

“The combination of these singers is also to prove that the work of the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee is highly appreciated by people of various races in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak,” she said.

Yumi added an exhibition of P. Ramlee’s paintings by the Sarawak Painters Association as well as various portrait paintings would be displayed to bring back the nostalgia of P. Ramlee.

“In line with the birthday celebration of our Head of State, I hope that more fans can use this opportunity to watch and appreciate the legendary works of P. Ramlee,” she said.

Yumi added that in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the event would be held in strict compliance to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) which include daily sanitisation process at the venue and limiting the number of crews involved.
