Sarawak records increase in cases

KUCHING: Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced that 713 new cases were recorded on Tuesday (Oct 26) — 220 more cases compared to the previous day’s tally of 493.

SDMC said 696 percent of the new cases were Category 1 and 2, while 17 percent were Category 3, 4 and 5.

Kuching District reported the most cases numbering 206 followed by Miri (142); Sibu (72); Bintulu (66); Serian (46); Lawas (44); Limbang (27); Samarahan (14); Saratok and Daro (ten each); Song (nine); Meradong (eight); Pusa (seven); Bau (six); Sarikei and Kanowit (five each).

Four new cases were each reported in Kapit, Betong, Sri Aman, and Asajaya; Julau (three); two each in Subis, Bukit Mabong, Marudi, Beluru, and Sebauh.

Pakan, Simunjan, Lundu, Lubok Antu, Dalat, Tatau, and Selangau recorded one case each. This brings the cumulative cases in the state to 237,762.

Meanwhile, the SDMC also declared 22 fatalities from Oct 7 to Oct 25.

“The deaths consist of victims aged 34 to 86 from Sarikei, Samarahan, Mukah, Sibu, Sri Aman, Miri, Limbang, Kuching, and Kapit divisions,” it said.

On another note, the committee also announced the enforcement of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) on Rumah Uchi, Lubok Nyumboh Entabai in Julau from Oct 26 to Nov 1 while Rumah Mulok, Lempa Antu in Pakan and Rumah Endit, Nanga Batang, Budu in Saratok will start their EMCO from Oct 27 onwards.

On Oct 26, the EMCO at four longhouses will be lifted while the EMCO at Rumah Unan, Nanga Kuap, Sungai Lijan will end on Oct 27.
