KUCHING: Charity body Hope Place has teamed up with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to help the needy.

Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan shared that he visited Arms of Hope Sabah over the weekend.

“Together, we not only delivered food aid and face masks to underprivileged communities in Kota Kinabalu but also to rural areas like Keningau, Nabawang and Tenom.

“Malaysian Aeon Foundation sponsored 100 packs of food to the Sabah NGO under its Aeon Bersamamu community programme.

“We were also joined by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) in Tenom, whereby the JKM recommended a case for us there.”

Wan added that the Arms of Hope Sabah brought him to a few slums and squatters in Kota Kinabalu to distribute face masks and see for himself the conditions and struggles of the underprivileged community there.

He said that throughout his visit, he had taught his Sabahan counterparts the technique of conducting interviews, assessing different cases and delivery.

“Hope Place is glad to team up with another NGO. It’s the underprivileged community that is the main focus. As long as you have the heart and willingness to learn, our doors are always open.”

He was encouraged that more and more NGOs are cropping up to help the needy in Sabah.
