18 items under price control scheme

KAPIT: A total of 18 items will come under the Maximum Price Scheme for the Festive Season ahead of the Hari Raya celebration
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry branch head here, Englebert Inggath Desmond Japar, said the scheme will be enforced for 11 days from April 26 to May 6.

According to him, the maximum price scheme for the Hari Raya Puasa Festive Season is being implemented as the demand for certain daily necessities for the celebration of the festival is still high.

“The implementation of this maximum price scheme aims to ensure that the price of goods is controlled by setting ceiling prices at the wholesale and retail levels which are the focus of consumer spending during the festive season,” he said here, today.

Englebert listed 18 controlled items in Kapit, Song and Belaga, namely Imported Beef, Puffed Fish, Selayang Fish, Tomato, Red Chilli, Imported Round Cabbage (Indonesian and Chinese), excluding Beijing cabbage, Long Beans, Long Eggplants, Cucumbers, Imported Red Onions, Holland Onions, Garlic (China), Imported Potato Union (China), Dried Chillies, Peanuts, Imported Old Ginger, Coconut Seeds (Wholesale Only), and Grated Coconut (Retail Only).

He said the ministry will step up price monitoring inspections on these basic necessities throughout Kapit division.

“Strict action will be taken against traders who fail to comply with the rules of this Scheme under the Price Control and Anti -Profiteering Act 2011 ,” he warned.
