KUCHING: Sarawak has yet to detect any monkeypox cases so far.

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, however, said surveillance along the state’s borders must be enhanced to stop the people carrying the virus from coming in.

“We have to make sure that the people who are coming honestly tell us that they do not have any monkeypox symptoms,” he said in a TikTok video shared on his Facebook page on Monday (June 6).

The disease, he pointed, is a worldwide phenomenon spreading from animals to humans.

“As a matter of fact, the virus has been around for quite some time.

“That is why, we also need to survey our healthcare facilities to make sure that anyone with these symptoms should immediately inform us (health authorities) so that we can put our measures into the next level of practice,” he said.
