KUCHING: Some 26 delegates aged between 18 and 28 from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) new wing, the Pergerakan Belia PBB will be attending the party’s 15th triennial general meeting (TGM) this weekend.

PBB vice president Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said this is to introduce them to the party system and culture.

“There will be a total of 2,420 delegates namely 1,825 from the Main Wing; 298 from the Women Wing; 297 from the Youth Wing and 26 from the party’s new 18 to 28 wing attending the convention.

“This convention is special because we have delegates from the new wing who are 18 and above who not only can vote but can be party members.

“We want to introduce the party’s system and culture so they can share it with the rest of the group,” he said during a press conference after chairing the preparation and decoration subcommittee meeting at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.

On the TGM’s theme of ‘menjamin kestabilan, kemakmuran dan kegemilangan Sarawak’ (ensuring stability, prosperity, and glory of Sarawak), Dr Rundi said it mirrors the Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) manifesto during the last state election.

He said the theme was chosen to commemorate and appreciate Sarawakians who provided strong support to GPS.

He also said the party as the backbone of the government of the day will continue to show and pursue its efforts to further develop Sarawak to benefit Sarawakians.

“We want to ensure that political stability, prosperity, and glory is maintained so that we can focus on developing the state as well as its people.

“This convention will provide a clearer picture on the direction of our leadership in accordance with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) to ensure that Sarawak becomes a developed state by 2030,” he said.

At the same time, Dr Rundi said the lack of contest or competition for posts in the party shows how there is consensus among party members for the party’s direction.
