KUCHING: Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi hopes Sarawak Energy (SEB) will truly be an international company when it celebrates its 200th anniversary by being the main source of power in ASEAN region and beyond.

He said this when speaking to officiate at the launch of Sarawak Energy’s 100 Years of Powering Sarawak Exhibition here at Borneo Cultures Museum today.

“Sarawak Energy has grown and evolved with Sarawak in the past century and through the exhibition, all of you are not only witnessing Sarawak Energy’s journey but also Sarawak as a whole.

“I do believe Sarawak Energy will achieve more accomplishments in the future with the ambition shown by its leaders in the company,” he added.

This exhibition, themed ‘Sarawak Energy, Past, Present and Future’, which showcases Sarawak Energy’s journey since 1921 in lighting up Sarawak, is open to the public until 15 July.

With permission from the Sarawak Museum Department, Sarawak Energy is the first exhibitor to showcase at the museum’s Temporary Exhibition Gallery since opening its doors to the public in March this year.

The exhibition was initially conceived as one of several activities to celebrate its 100th year of powering Sarawak in 2021 but was shifted to this year due to the challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sarawak Energy was represented by its chairman, Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Sepawi, along with Sarawak Energy board member Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Group chief executive cfficer (CEO) Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, as well as management officials and staff.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Telecommunication) Datuk Liwan Lagang, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni and the director for Sarawak Museum Tazudin Mohtar.
