KUCHING: A Singaporean architectural firm will be commissioned by the state government to help plan the regeneration of Greater Kuching.

This was revealed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who said the decision was made after discussion on the matter was conducted with the prominent architect planner with vast experience that include being with Singapore’s Housing and Development Board.

“We need help in the planning of urban regeneration for Greater Kuching. Just for comparison, Singapore has an area of 720 square km while Greater Kuching has 1,857 square km.

“This means our Greater Kuching alone is two times the size of Singapore,” he said when officiating at the Singapore Business Delegation Networking Dinner last Tuesday night.

Abang Johari also revealed that Sarawak has entered memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with two Singaporean companies, namely, Sky Urban Solutions Holding and Alternative Selection Pte Ltd during his recent trip to Singapore.

He said the MoUs will help Sarawak achieve the state’s aspiration of becoming a major player in the food production sector.

“Crops can be grown in Sarawak then sent to Singapore to be re-exported. We can use technology to meet the quality and standard required for the food while Singapore can be the distribution centre,” he said.

For the record, Sky Urban Solutions Holding is Singapore’s first commercialided vertical farm and a globally recognised pioneer in integrated, sustainable, and green urban farming technology.

Meanwhile, Alternative Solutions Pte Ltd is Singapore’s first wholesaler and retailer of alternative gourmet, organic, allergen and preservative free specialty food.
