MIRI: Police believed they have solved two armed robbery cases involving valuables more than RM100,000 in Bekenu and Miri with the arrest of 10 suspects including a foreign national, on November 16.
According to Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato’Mohd Azman Sapri all suspects aged between 40 and 50 years-old were apprehended during an operation dubbed Ops Rantau.
“The first eight suspects were detained at a house in Riam By-pass area at 3am by a team of Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID),” said Azman during a press conference held today in Miri.
The remaining two suspects were detained at Serian Bus station on the same day.
“Prior to that (arrest), the duo had escaped from Miri to Serian on-board a bus, but were then detained by a team of Serian CID upon their arrival there,” he told the media here.
Azman added, the armed robbery incident reportedly occurred on September 8 and 14 this year.
“In this incident, victims were tied up while the suspects did the ransacking of their belongings,” he said.
All suspects are currently detained for seven days to facilitate police investigation on the case.
“With the arrest, we believe we have managed to solve armed robbery cases that occurred in Brunei recently which were related to the suspects,” Azman said.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 and Section 457 of the Penal Code for robbery and housebreaking.
Azman later on presented certificates of achievement to 31 Miri CID personnel who were involved in the arrests of the suspects.
Also present were Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu and his deputy Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol.
