LABUAN: The Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Labuan inaugural divisional election for the top post (ketua kawasan) today is expected to see a two-corner fight from two different factions.

The contestants who have confirmed to contest are Chemat Mustapha, 56, and Yahya Saleha, 63. The election is scheduled at 1.30pm at SJK Che Win hall, and the result would be known later in the evening.

Labuan Amanah protem chief coordinator Dr Ramli Tahir was learned to contest for one of the divisional committee members.

Labuan Corporation chairman Datuk Seri Amir Hussien who was initially tipped to contest for the top post had to stay away from the party election in line with the Amanah’s policy of not allowing its party members who are in the government to be involved in the party election.

Chemat told Bernama the election would be the turning point for the party’s new leader to do away with nepotism and cronyism allegedly existing within the party leadership.
