KUCHING: Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Chong Chieng Jen yesterday presented prizes to the winners of various competitions held in connection with the ‘Buy Malaysian Products’ carnival.

The prizes were presented at the closing ceremony of the carnival at MJC, Batu Kawa here last Sunday.

The three-day carnival which started last Friday was held for the first time in Kuching to encourage Malaysians to buy local products as well as to stimulate the economy of the country.

Chong hoped that the carnival would become more successful in the years to come as it can benefit local consumers and entrepreneurs.

“Next stop will be Johor from Oct 28 to Nov 3,” he told reporters after the event.

The following are the results of the various competitions:

Lucky draw

Mohamad Suzimandy Was won the top lucky draw prize in the form of a Perodua Axia worth RM38,000. The 42-year old father did spend quite a lot at the carnival on groceries and other necessities which qualified him to take part in the lucky draw programme.

The other prize — SYM SM Sport R110 motorcycle worth RM5,000 — was won by Nur Ainiah @ Bestina Abdullah.

Karaoke Super Idol Open

Mary Camela Rex Clement bested 23 other singers to take the top prize of RM2,000. In second and third places were Nur Athifah Musyirah Ismail and Mahathir Zailani who received RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively. They also received a trophy and a certificate each.

Instafamous Biz Challenge

This competition attracted 54 participants. Qartinee Mohd Esa who was the top winner received RM500 having gotten 179 likes on Instagram. In second place was Mohd Raufa Aminuddin Abd Rauf with 75 likes, and third was Pauline Nara Albert Atal with 62 likes. They received RM300 and RM200 respectively.

Best Booth

E-Sport Tournament’s booth was adjudged the best was awarded RM500. The second prize of RM300 went to My Aubry (Minche Ambun) while Jakker Trading Sdn Bhd won RM200 for the third place.

Mobile Legend E-Sport Tournament

Team Red Sonia emerged as the winner taking home RM1,000 while Team Jahok won RM500 for second place and Team Outlaw in third place received RM300.

Food Truck Biz Challenge

Sarbini Enterprise outshone 10 contenders to win the top prize of RM2,000. Alina’s Cuisine came in second and was awarded RM1,000, while Kawi Recipes got RM700 for being in third place.
