KUCHING: State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion today described the late Datuk Sgt Awang Raweng as a brave and fearless fighter, who risked his own safety for the sake of his colleagues and the nation.

“This is one of the most important qualities that he had — the selflessness and fearless determination to ensure that the country was free from any danger during the emergency period,” he said after paying his last respects to the late Awang at Dewan Suarah here on Sunday (Sept 20).

The casket bearing the body of the late Awang had just arrived in Kuching and it was received by Jaul on behalf of the Sarawak state government.

Jaul said the state was giving him a state funeral with full military protocol in return for his sacrifices.

“This is the last honour to remember his contributions,” he added.

Awang’s remains is lying in state at the Dewan Suarah here to allow the public and dignitaries to pay their last respects to him before his burial at the Heroes Cemetery (Heroes Memorial) on Monday, Sept 21.
