KUCHING: The Health Ministry (MoH) is currently conducting an active case detection (ACD) programme at two villages in Demak Laut, namely, Kampung Tabuan Lot and Kampung Tabuan Tengah.

Lasting four days from Sunday to Wednesday, the programme involves 4,000 residents.

Demak Laut assemblyman, Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the implementation of the programme at the two villages followed an increase in cases there in the past one week.

“So far, over 30 cases have been reported in the past one week. So, the next step is to detect other cases that we do not know of,” he said after visiting Kampung Tabuan to review the progress of the ACD operation on Monday (July 12).

Elaborating further, he said the health ministry’s approach of conducting the ACD programme on a large scale was very good in efforts to directly identify positive Covid-19 cases.

He said that unlike the ACD programme which was previously implemented by imposing the enhanced movement control order (Emco), this time there was no quarantine order and no pink wristbands.

“Taking into account the four days of the ACD programme, every day the health ministry will carry out Covid-19 swab tests on all the 1,000 residents here,” said Dr Hazland.

He urged residents of both villages to cooperate to ensure that active Covid-19 cases could be identified and the spread of the virus could be curbed.
