KUCHING: The inaugural annual general meeting (AGM) for the Universiti Putra Malaysia Alumni Association (PAUPM) Sarawak will be held before the end of the year.

PAUPM’s protem chairman Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran said the meeting will focus on electing new office bearers to serve a two-year term.

“The application to legalise PAUPM has been approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) this year. The date of the meeting has not been set up yet but it would be sometime after the first half of 2024,” he said told a press conference here on Thursday (February 15).

On the alumni association, Entri said its primary objective is to raise awareness, particularly among former students, about its presence and purpose.

“We acknowledge that all UPM Sarawak Alumni have vast experience in all fields related to their studies.

“Some have held senior positions in both public and private sectors. Some are pensioners while others are still serving.

“In one way or another, they have served the people and with such vast experiences at times of difficulties and successes, they are still able and willing to continue serving the community at their own capabilities and capacities,” he added.

Entri said the association is to preserve the legacy of alumni serving in Sarawak, thus prompting its establishment.

“The association is open to all UPM Sarawak graduates be they are either retired civil servants, private sectors or still serving in whatever capacities they are now, and all fresh graduates,” he said.

Also present was protem deputy chairman Datuk Sapuan Ahmad, other committee members and distinguished guests.
