Tellian constituents get food aid

MUKAH: A total of 3,041 houses and longhouse bilik in the Tellian constituency received a packet of 10kg rice each as part of the government’s assistance to people affected by the ongoing movement control order (MCO).

Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo said of the total, 1,608 were village houses and 1,433 longhouse bilik.

He added the first phase distribution began simultaneously on Wednesday in the various villages and longhouses with the assistance of village and longhouse chiefs.

“For the poor, disabled and those with health problems, comprising 351 recepients from 13 villages, they are given a food basket each valued at RM50 per basket,” he told reporters after officiating the handing over ceremony at the Kampung Seri Tellian (Tellian Tengah) multi-purpose hall here yesterday.

According to him, in the second phase sometime next week, the 3,041 recepients would receive a food basket each containing a packet of 5kg rice a¬nd other essential food items.

Yussibnosh said the food assistance was from the RM200,000 allocation from a total of RM16.4mil provided by the Sarawak government to each of the 82 constituencies.

Meanwhile, he advised those having flu, coughing and other related symptoms to go for immediate medical treatment as a precaution, besides practising social distancing.

He also advised the young people, especially students, to adhere to the MCO, as non-compliance would land them in trouble with the law.

The second phase of the MCO is from April 1 to 14, while the first phase was from March 18 to 31.
