SIBU: The Sibu Central Market is among the places scheduled to be visited by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah during the ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ tour to the town.
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh said that His Royal Highness will ride on a golf cart to the central market from a hotel at 8.30 am on September 12.
“We have prepared five golf carts for the Agong and his entourage to the central market. He will tour the market to see especially the ayam bungkus (chickens wrapped newspaper) and dine with the local people,” he said during a full council meeting today (August 30).
Ting added that Dabai, an indigenous seasonal fruit is one of the local delicacies that will be served to the Agong during his visit to the central market.
“Our menu for Agong’s light breakfast includes Dabai together with other local foods such as ‘pulut panggang’ (grilled glutinous rice roll) and ‘kampua mee’ (dry noodles),” he said.
The King and Queen will set off on the Sarawak leg of their ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ tour from Sept 7 to 13.
They are expected to arrive in Sibu on September 11 from Bintulu.
Their first stop here will be at Yu Lung Tian En Si Temple followed by a community dinner at Malay Union Club Hall.
“We are very honoured to have the Agong visiting us as it is not very often that he can come here,” Ting added.
