KUCHING: The Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS) is persisting in its implementation of the “Ihya’ Ramadan” programme to alleviate the burdens of needy groups.

AKYBMS chief executive officer Datuk Dr Sanib Said said the programme has been ongoing for five years, serving as a commemoration of the holy month of Ramadan.

“This year, AKYBMS has provided aid to 35 asnaf individuals in each village visited.

“We have already visited villages such as Kampung Gumpey Simunjan and Kampung Sageng Simunjan yesterday.

“Today (Wednesday), we will be visiting Kampung Gita Laut and Kampung Kudei, and tomorrow, our journey continues to Maahad Tahfiz Raudatul Jannah in Kampung Selang Ulu, Kuching, and Surau Umar Khatab in Bandar Baru Samariang.”

He made these remarks when approached by the media after attending the symbolic launch (flag-off) of the “Ihya’ Ramadan” programme, officiated by Deputy Premier cum AKYBMS Board of Trustees chairman Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at the Wisma Sumber Alam compound, Petra Jaya, on Wednesday (March 20).

Sanib added that the community has warmly embraced the programme, demonstrating AKYBMS’s keen awareness of collective needs, especially for those less fortunate in celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Earlier, Sanib and Legislative Committee secretary and chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Mohd Tready, together with Awang Tengah, raised the Sarawak flag and witnessed a mini procession of vehicles carrying contributions in the form of food baskets to be distributed to the asnaf in targeted areas.
