Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg celebrated his fifth anniversary as Sarawak’s chief executive officer yesterday.

Currently serving his second term after leading Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to a landslide victory in the recent state election, Abang Johari seeks to take Sarawak to greater heights.

With numerous initiatives and development plans implemented in the state since he took office in 2017, he has given assurance that there are many more to come to turn Sarawak into a high-income state by 2030.

At the same time, he has made sure that he is seen as chief minister for all races whose religious choices and freedom shall be attended to and protected.

In all of these and more, he has strong support from his colleagues and supporters, thus leading to political stability and unity of the state’s multi-ethnic constituents.

So on the anniversary of his chief ministership, a number of state leaders and other prominent politicians have expressed their support and wished him well, saying they want him to continue leading the state.

I wish our chief minister continued good health and wisdom for years to come. He has been an exemplary leader steering our state with countless initiatives all for the benefits of our rakyat. A tireless and inquisitive advocate of financial re-engineering, our chief minister had our financial pillars strengthened making our past few years budget reaching 10s of billions materialised and we are self-reliant. His passionate support for UNIFOR has seen our state and people bind as a model for true and enhanced unity in diversity. His stable stewardship steers us forward.

The leadership of our chief minister has brought our state and people to greater heights in terms of achieving the development agenda and to establish Sarawak as a developed state in 2030. His vision and experienced leadership have motivated us to continue working together in achieving the desired development goals and to deliver what the GPS state government has promised to our local folks. The few years of his leadership, our chief minister had also provided clarity of purpose among our state representatives while motivating and guiding our leaders to close ranks in realising people-centric aspirations.
