Anwar arrives for brief state visit

KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived here yesterday afternoon for a short visit to Sarawak.

On hand to receive him at the Kuching International Airport were Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

Anwar was scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of Raia Hotel and Kuching Convention Centre as well as a breaking the fast ceremony with the less fortunate and Orphans.

He was also to perform Maghrib, Isyak and tarawih prayers as well as attended a ‘moreh’ programme at the same hotel before leaving back to Kuala Lumpur last night.

Also present was Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin and Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai.
