APM monitoring 17 areas at risk of floods

BAU: Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel here are on standby in anticipation of floods in the district.

APM officer Nurul Nikmah Abusamah said at the moment, 76 APM personnel have been put on alert mode, especially on high risk areas.

“A total of 17 hotspots have been identified as high risk areas in Bau, as part of the efforts to face the North East Monsoon in the country from now until March 2024.

“Since November, we have been monitoring some of the areas that were identified as hotspots and we have been collaborating with other enforcement such as Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), police and others in facing the possibility of floods,” she said.

She was speaking to reporters during a pre-Christmas celebration at Bau APM’s office on Wednesday (Dec 20).

“We have also prepared several of our assets including lorries, ambulances, boats and safety jackets for ease of operation later.

“Some of the 17 hotspots that were identified as high risk areas are Kpg Bogag, Kpg, Bijuray Mongag Krokong, Kpg Peninjau Baru, Kpg Blimbin Korokong, Kpg Bunga Rampai and Kpg Pangkalan Melayu Bau.

“Other areas include Kpg Siniawan Lot, Kpg Siniawan Seberang, Kpg Melayu Seberang Buso and Kpg Opar,” she added.

She stated 30 temporary relief centre (PPS) have been opened to place residents affected by floods.

“If necessary, we will open another 40 PPS in order to accommodate residents,” she said.
“As of now, the situation is still under control, and we are constantly monitoring, especially in high-risk areas,” she added.
