KUCHING: The Lawas Area Fishermen Association (PNK) aquaculture project in Kampung Noor Islam Laut, Kuala Lawas, is expected to boost the cultivation of white prawn and tilapia fish.

The project being integrated into RECODA’s Community@SCORE programme, engaged with  Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) and Lawas PNK, is employing a super-intensive tank system across five cages.

“The innovative approach is expected to yield a substantial one-tonne harvest every four months for each cage, enhancing productivity and promoting sustainable practices,” said a statement issued on Thursday.

Adding further, the statement revealed that Datuk Ubaidillah Abdul Latip, the regional director of the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA), alongside key project members Basran Sakmad and Sebastian Paul Jokin, recently conducted an onsite visit to assess the advancements and practicality of the technology employed.

“Launched in Sept 2023, the initiative is under the stringent management of Lawas PNK, ensuring the project’s sustainability and the quality of its output.
