BAU: The Eastern Field Command Headquarters (MK PMTTD) of the army thwarted an attempt by two local men, aged 22 and 24, to smuggle 53 boxes of red radishes valued at RM 3,180 into Indonesia today (Apr 19).

The total value of the seized goods, including a Toyota Hilux vehicle, was estimated at RM 101,180.

“The Malaysian Army (TDM), as part of the First Malaysian Infantry Division, effectively disrupted smuggling activities in the Op Awas/Keris Parang sector,” the army said in a statement.

At approximately 2.50 am, a TDM patrol team at the Empaling Kg Stass Oil Palm Plantation, located about 400 metres from the Indonesian border, intercepted a Toyota Hilux. The vehicle, which was carrying concealed cargo, was attempting to cross into Indonesia via unauthorised routes.

“All confiscated items, along with the two detained individuals, were handed over to the police at the Bau police station for further action,” it added.

The army remains committed to tightening border controls between Malaysia and Indonesia, aiming to protect national sovereignty against illegal immigration, smuggling and cross-border crimes.
