A total of 200 gas cylinders believed to be on their way to Indonesia were seized by the army.

SERIKIN: An attempt to smuggle 200 gas cylinders out to Indonesia by two locals, was thwarted by the army yesterday (Oct 25).

The illegal activity came to light around 6 pm when a patrol team discovered a 2.5-tonne lorry and a pick-up truck in Ladang Empaling Stass, about 600 metres from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.

A spokesman for the First Infantry Division said the team intercepted the vehicles along an illegal route for inspection.

“Results found that two men aged 23 and 36 were operating the vehicles with the intent of transporting gas cylinders to our neighbouring country.

“The estimated total value of the seized items, which includes the lorry, pick-up truck, 200 gas cylinders, and a sum of cash, is about RM141,700,” the spokesman said.

Both the suspects, along with the seizures, have been handed over to Bau police for further action.
