SIBU: A military veteran was found dead in his rented abode located in a shop at the Sungai Merah bazaar on Thursday.

Sibu OCPD ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the victim was identified as Rexley Kassim, 50.

“The victim was discovered by his son (around 11.50am) who tried to wake his father up but to no avail.

“His son then called his mother for help,” Stanley said.

He added that family members later contacted the police and a team from the Sungai Merah station rushed to the scene.

Investigations at the scene revealed no signs of foul play and no valuables were missing.

The deceased had been living in the rented room after retiring from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) four years ago.

“We were told that the victim’s son was talking to him (earlier) around 7am the same day.

“From information gathered from the victim’s wife through his medical record book, he had diabetes and hypertension,” Stanley said
