KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin hopes that the midterm review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) will not deviate from its focus theme of  ‘A Prosperous, Inclusive and Sustainable Malaysia’.

He said it is crucial for the advancement of the country as a whole through more needs-based policies.

“This is because needs-based policies will be more effective in boosting economic growth and equitable distribution of our nation’s wealth,” he said in a statement today.

Yap said the midterm review by the federal government should consider all stakeholders fairly and equally.

“As long as they are in the B40 household and based on market friendly, market based criteria, and taking into consideration their needs and merits.

“The attention during the review should be on capacity building while simultaneously finding ways to integrate more need-based assistance to achieve the holistic targets and objectives under 12,MP” he added.

In the meantime, Yap recently accompanied village chiefs from Kampung Stampin Baru and Kampung Lubuk Buan, Jakup Buan to identify the street lighting points to be installed.

He said the cost for the streetlights would be RM1 million for the Kota Sentosa constituency under the approved rural transformation project (RTP).

“I hope that the installation of street lights throughout Kota Sentosa will increase visibility, promote road safety for drivers and pedestrians and discourage theft in my constituency,” he added.

For the record, the number of streetlights identified and marked for installation is 11 for Kampung Lubok Buan, eight for Kampung Stampin Baru, 30 for Kampung temedak, 35 for Kampung Sungai Tapang and five for Kampung Stutong Iban.
