KUCHING: The Sarawak Patriot Association (SPA) has praised Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing for his hands-on approach in dealing with the detention of a China-based media company employee at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) last Thursday.

Tiong then urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the Immigration Department’s handling of foreign visitors’ arrival at KLIA, citing allegations of a “culture of corruption” within the department.

“The ministry is doing everything possible to attract more tourists to Malaysia. If the allegations are true, the authorities must take strong action to address any wrongdoing,” said SPA president Datuk John Lau Pang Heng in a statement today (July 1).

“Corruption is the cause of many problems, and if we don’t put an end to it, our country may not progress,” he added.
