ATV rider dies, one injured in collision

MUKAH: A septuagenarian all-terrain vehicle (ATV) rider was killed in a collision with a car on the Mukah-Balingian Road at KM42 earlier this morning.

According to Mukah District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Muhamad Rizal Alias, both vehicles were travelling in the same direction towards Mukah at around 7 am when the accident occurred.

“The accident happened when the car, travelling from Balingian to Mukah, cut in front of the ATV at KM42 of the Mukah-Balingian Road.

The ATV then suddenly turned right, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles,” he said.

The 79-year-old ATV rider suffered severe injuries to the neck, legs, and right ribs, and died at the scene.

The car’s front passenger suffered a broken left wrist, but the driver and rear passenger were unharmed.

The car sustained damage to its left front section and was taken to the Mukah Police Station for inspection by Puspakom.

The victim’s body was sent to the Mukah Hospital mortuary, and the driver’s blood sample was taken for investigation.

The case is still under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
