BINTULU: Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah predicts that Bintulu Port will become prominent in the global shipping and port industry after the takeover by the state government next year.

“Indirectly, the takeover will position Bintulu Port as a major player on the global stage,” he asserted, expressing confidence in the state government’s ability to manage the port effectively using a local governance model.

“This approach will not only advance the port but also enhance its prestige worldwide,” he said during Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House organised by Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) held at the Menara Kidurong here last Friday night.

Currently, Bintulu Port ranks among the largest in Malaysia.

Despite the impending transition of control to the state government, Hasbi, who is also the Limbang MP, hoped for a continued strong partnership between the Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) and the port operator, Bintulu Port Sdn. Bhd (BPSB).

“I sincerely hope the existing good and friendly relationship… not only continues but even strengthens after the takeover,” he added.

He suggested that establishing a committee co-chaired by BPA and BPSB might help ensure the delivery of exemplary port services going forward.

Also present were Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming, BPA board of directors chairman Datuk Sharkawi Alis, Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) group chief executive officer Ruslan Abdul Ghani, and BPA general manager Amir Mat Drus.
