KUCHING: The AXIS Petra Jaya Track & Field athletes brought home four medals overall from the 6th Brunei Open Athletic Track & Field Championship 2017 which was held at the Tutong Sports Complex, Brunei Darussalam last weekend.

They won two gold medals and two silver medals.

Sukma gold medallist in 2014, Mohamad Arif Zulhilmi Alet won the first gold in the 400m category while the second gold medal was from the 4X400m team of Mohamad Arif Zulhilmi Alet and three teammates – Mohamad Afif Zulhusmi Alet, Mohamad Adib Zulhusni Alet and Ahmad Tirmizi Ahmad Sabirin.

The two silver medals came from Mohamad Adib Zulhusni from 400m and 4X100m realy squad comprising Mohamad Arif Zulhilmi Alet, Mohamad Afif Zulhusmi Alet, Ahmad Tirmizi Sabirin and Mohammad Safazzuan Sazuki.

“This achievement is quite encouraging and make us proud with the medals by our runners. Well done and congratulations to them for a pretty impressive performance,” team manager Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said when commenting on the success of his athletes.

According to Fazzrudin, their successful achievement was due their own efforts and hard work during training.

Fazzrudin, who is also one of the coaches for the team, added that his team’s participation in the tournament was an initial preparation for the Sarawak Open Track & Field Championship which will be held soon.
