SERIAN: Datuk Snowdan Lawan is eyeing a full district status for his constituency, sub-district Balai Ringin.

The Balai Ringin assemblyman said the expanding population and rapid pace of development in the area will bring Balai Ringin to a better administration service in different zones which he tagged as zone A (Serian), zone B (Simunjan) and zone C (Sri Aman).

“When I first became the representative of Balai Ringin, there were only 188 villages in 2006.

“Now there are 250 villages in total. In only 15 years, the local people have been exploring new land to reside,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of Balai Ringin Sub-District Planning and Development Laboratory (Makmal Perancangan dan Pembangunan Daerah Kecil Balai Ringin) programme at Sarawak Administrative Centre in Serian on Thursday (April 21).

Snowdan said the programme is believed to be able to carve a step in a more constructive direction for Balai Ringin.

“Various ideas were proposed in the programme from community leaders and government agencies, which is important to further develop the area.

“Through it, ideas can be made possible to alleviate the economy or boost development in the sub-district,” he said.

In the two-day programme, the State Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts said various aspects were also discussed including infrastructure, economy, agriculture, telecommunications and so on for the benefit of the locals.

Also present was the state deputy secretary Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik who shared his view on the role of each member of the government agency in ensuring that development can be implemented smoothly.

He said the government will consider and review a holistic plan to develop Balai Ringin and subsequently will change the development landscape of the area.

“We expect that with the forming of Balai Ringin into Sub -District, the application for allocation for development will increase.

“We are concerned about the people’s wishes for basic infrastructure, water and electricity supply, road network and telecommunications to be met.

“Demands for the economic sector and social transformation are also emphasised so that all residents will benefit from a prosperous life.

“The Sarawak government will strengthen human resource capacity, and develop the Balai Ringin Sub-District Office so that government services are accessible to the people.

“We at the implementing level must carry out our duties by complying with the rules that have been set to succeed in the government’s agenda to achieve a developed country by 2030,” he added.
