MIRI: Some bamboo plants fell on the roof of a house at Kampung Lereng Bukit here and damaged its kitchen.

This happened during three hours of strong winds and heavy rain from Thursday night until early Friday morning.

House owner Ahmad Zaini, 42, and his family of eight  were watching television inside the house when they heard a loud noise at around 11pm.

“Fortunately, none of us were injured in the incident,” he told  New Sarawak Tribune yesterday morning.

“I thought it was a landslide so I immediately instructed my family to leave the house for their own safety,” he added.

Ahmad immediately called  the Miri fire station for assistance to remove the bamboo plants from his roof.

A team of Miri firemen arrived at the scene at around 9am to remove  the bamboo plants.
