BAU: The opening of Sarawak’s first off-the-road driver academy, Sar4Trac, marks a significant milestone in enhancing safety awareness and driving skills among four-wheel vehicle (4WD) drivers across the state.

Developed as a collaboration between Kuching-based 4X4 Quest Sdn Bhd and the local communities of Kpg Barieng and Kpg Segong in Singai, Sar4Trac is a wholly Sarawakian venture.

During the opening ceremony of the facilities in Singai today, director of 4X4 Quest, Paul Si Poh Lim, said, “Sar4Trac possesses the necessary credentials and permanent facilities to conduct courses year-round, eliminating the need for time-consuming and costly site surveys and preparations for each session.”

Si thanked for the partnership with the village development and security committees (JKKKs), emphasising their shared vision of uplifting the skills of local youth and fostering beneficial economic activity.

Sar4Trac offers professional courses with a strong focus on safety for full-time drivers employed by government departments, government-linked corporations, and private companies engaged in off-road driving activities.

“Our course content goes beyond familiarising trainees with the operation of modern four-wheel-drive vehicles to maximize efficiency. It also equips them with the ability to assess the safety of each situation they encounter,” explained Si.

The establishment of Sar4Trac not only signifies a significant milestone in regional cooperation but also drew the participation of experienced four-wheel drivers from Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, as well as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Sabah in Peninsular Malaysia.

Among the distinguished guests in attendance at the ceremony was Deputy Minister for Transport, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
