KUCHING: The passing of the Anti-Party Hopping Bill and amendment is timely as it will bring stability and strengthen the nation.

It is time for the country to have this law as it prevents MPs and elected representatives from acting on their own and fancy, said Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Law, MA63, State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

She said the law will also prevent MPs and elected representatives from making selfish decisions rather than thinking of the people and voters who voted them in.

“I hope and I am sure that the amendment will bring stability and strength to the country as we do not have to deal with issues of MPs or elected representatives leaving a political party to join another and later leave to join another (political party).

“It is wrong and unfair to voters. The passing of the Bill and amendment is well and good for our democratic process so that once elected, all of us will have to stop politicking and start doing real work for the people as well as country,” she said on Friday.
