KUCHING: The passing of the Anti-Party Hopping Bill is something positive and forward looking for political stability, said Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.

With such Bill being passed, the law will ensure that voters’ hope will not be betrayed after voting for their elected representatives, the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) vice president stated.

He pointed out that the people had seen frequent hopping of elected representatives in the past which resulted in various consequences.

“I believe everyone shares similar sentiment about the bill.

“The frequent acts of hoping by elected representatives can destabilise the government.

“This puts foreign investors in (a state of) insecurity to continue to make Malaysia as preferred choice of investment,” he said when contacted today.

He was commenting on the passing of the Bill which was approved unanimously with 209 MPs voting in favour of it.

The Anti-party hopping law was mooted by both the government and opposition MPs after the infamous Sheraton Move back in early 2020 where several MPs ‘jumped’ ship from their respective political parties which resulted in the fall of Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

The Bill was part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the PH coalition.
