BINTULU: Five men were arrested for various offences in a year end joint operation by two agencies here.

District police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said the operation from 8pm last night (Dec 31) to 3am today (Jan 1) involved 98 personnel from the Bintulu Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Bintulu police.

The five were picked up for possessing of drugs, dangerous weapons and entertainment equipment.

“Police arrested five locals aged between 29 and 38 and confiscated two machetes, 29 rooster spurs, a folding knife, syabu and cannabis weighing a total of 24.5g, and a karaoke set,” Zulkipli said.

On offences under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (No. 8) Regulations 2020, he said 47 compounds were issued to errant individuals for failure to comply with physical distancing.

Twenty-five summonses were also served on road users for various traffic offences.
