KUCHING: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) welcomes the two aids under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 7.0 Plus for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting pointed out that the two were the extension of a special one-off assistance of RM10,000 for SMEs registered with Socso, and the new special one-off assistance of RM3,000 for micro-enterprises, who are also registered with Socso.

“This is indeed timely, especially when we are now in Phase 3 and on the way to economic recovery. It will definitely help to ease their financial burden and motivate these businesses after months of anxiety and uncertainty.

“The last 19 months have been very challenging to many people and the Sarawak government has indeed continued to do its best to serve and take care of their wellbeing.

“Although this pandemic has caused a worldwide economic disaster, the Sarawak government is still able to come up with a substantial 2022 State Budget of RM10.136 billion, which is sufficient to ensure the state continues developing and improving the lives of our people.”

He also lauded the effort done by the Sarawak government to continue monitoring and extending a helping hand to businesses the necessary assistance they need to recover.

“For that, Sarawak provides RM78.5 million financial assistance to SMEs and micro-enterprises under the BKSS 7.0 Plus.

“It is important that we support the micro-enterprises as they add value to the local economy by providing jobs and services.”

Meanwhile, Ting also mentioned that another group that needed assistance were former civil servants, who are now pensioners.

“It seems like it is very often they are the group that is being overlooked therefore we would like to appeal to our Chief Minister to consider a one-off payment of RM1,000 to all our pensioners.”
