KUCHING: The Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Blood Bank mobile unit will be organising a blood donation campaign at Aiman Mall in Kota Samarahan near here on Aug 10.

The campaign from 10am to 3pm, is held to encourage blood donors from Kota Samarahan and nearby areas to help ensure sufficient supply of blood at the bank.

Donors are advised to bring along their identification card and their blood donation card or book to present to the authorities.

The donation card or book can also be applied online through https://regdonor.bbis.moh.gov/ and donors should bring along the printed form.

The blood bank explained that the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the daily blood collection and feared that it would not be able to meet the demand from the hospital’s emergency unit.

Due to the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), fully vaccinated blood donors are encouraged to donate their blood after seven days of receiving the vaccine and experiencing no side effects.

“However, those who are yet to be vaccinated and former Covid-19 patients are also allowed to donate after 14 days recovering period,” it said.

The blood bank appeals to those who are in good health to come as new donor and to be part of the Bumi Kenyalang blood donor community.

It offers several advantages for blood donors including being exempted from outpatient treatment costs, medical care and second-class ward facilities for four months.

Also, blood donors who have donated twice or more in a 12-months period are eligible for Hepatitis B preventive vaccinations.
