KUCHING: Kuching Love Book Association, in collaboration with the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Blood Bank, will hold its Blood Donation Campaign 8.0 this Sunday (June 4) on the first floor of Aeroville Mall.
The campaign is in response to the SGH Blood Bank’s request to help solve the problem of insufficient blood stock.
In a press release today, the association hoped that individuals from all walks of life would actively participate in and support the event, which will benefit people who are in dire need of blood.
According to the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Centre, different components in the blood will be separated during the blood processing process.
They will be used to treat various disorders after being screened for viruses and bacteria.
As a result, three or more patients can be treated with a single pack of blood (which contains red and white blood cells, platelets, plasma, coagulation factors, and other blood components).
Anyone who weighs 45kg and is over 18 years old is eligible to donate blood, while anyone under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The whole blood donation process only takes five to thirty minutes, depending on the individual’s constitution.
Those planning to donate must have gotten at least five hours of sleep, eaten breakfast, and stayed away from alcoholic beverages for at least eight hours the night before.
The first 80 donors who successfully donate will receive a gratitude goodies bag, which contains an eco bag, t-shirt, stress ball, pen, five kilogrammes of white rice, Milo, Nestum, milk, and biscuits.
In the meantime, founder and chairperson of the Kuching Love Book Association May Loo Hun Ing thanked the sponsors, including 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, Supreme Consolidated Resources Sdn Bhd, Everrise Departmental Store Sdn Bhd, and Wecare Bakery.
