BATANG AI: The bodies of the two Indonesian nationals who went missing after the boat they were travelling in capsized at the Batang Ai Hydroelectric Dam last week were found yesterday. The remains of Sudigdo, 58, was found first by workers of Aiman Resort at 6.30 am while on their way after work to Aiman Jetty.

“Sudigdo’s remians were found about one kilometre from Aiman Jetty towards Aiman Resort. After the body was found a worker immediately tied the body to a float.

“A police team from Lubok Antu District Police Headquarters and Marine Police Region 5, Kuching arrived at 7.35am to retrieve the body,” a source said.

The second body, that of Yustinus Tukiman, 59, was found by a search and rescue (SAR) team at 3.45pm at the spot where the boat capsized. Last Friday at around 5.30pm, the two victims together with three others were travelling on a longboat on their way to Batang Ai Jetty when they encountered strong winds which caused the boat they were in to be hit by high waves and capsized.

The other three passengers namely Aris Kusnandar (an Indonesia national), Elisther Naka and James Nyambong of Rumah Mengkak managed to save themselves by clinging to the boat before they were rescued by workers of Aiman Resort.

A search and rescue (SAR) team compr ising BOMBA, Police and Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel was then formed to look for the two missing boat passengers.
