Body of drowned man recovered near Begalak Camp

SIBU: The body of a 47-year-old Gawing Mancha, who went missing after the longboat he was travelling in capsized on Sunday, was found floating near Begalak Camp, Batang Rajang, here this morning (Feb 14).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said his men received a call from the public at 6.57am following the discovery.

Rescuers were promptly deployed to the scene to retrieve the body, some 5km from the spot the victim was said to have drowned.

The body was later taken to Song wharf to be handed over to police to be sent to the hospital for post-mortem.

On Sunday (Feb 12), the victim was travelling on a longboat with six others to Song town from Rh Ekeh Nanga Pan when it capsized.

Police believe waves caused the boat to sink around 11pm.

The other passengers managed to save themselves.
