KUCHING: The body of a man who allegedly fell from the Darul Hana bridge into the Sarawak River in the wee hours of today (June 24) was found by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

According to a statement from the department, the body was discovered at 5.50am at the base of one of the bridge’s pylons, located directly beneath the point of the alleged fall. 

A team of firemen from Padungan station used a grappling iron to locate and retrieve the body from underwater.

“As of now, the identity of the deceased remains unknown as no identification documents were found on the body. 

“However, at the bridge, rescuers did find a red T-shirt, a pair of spectacles, and slippers believed to belong to the deceased.

“The search and rescue operation was initiated at 2am, following a witness report received at 1.35am.

“According to the witness, the man fell into the river and did not resurface,” the statement said.

The deceased’s body was handed to the police for transport to the Sarawak General Hospital’s forensics department for further action.
